In April 2006 in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Birth of Samuel Beckett, Grove Press, an imprint of Grove/Atlantic, Inc. published two significant projects:

The first is The Centenary Editions, an extraordinary four-volume set of Beckett's selected works, edited by Paul Auster and designed by award winning designer Laura Lindgren. As Auster writes in his notes for the series, "Samuel Beckett created one of the most brilliant and enduring body of work in twentieth-century literature . . . . The four volumes of this new edition bring together nearly every word Beckett ever published during his lifetime. . . . Open anywhere and begin reading. It is an experience unequaled anywhere in the universe of words." For the series Auster commissioned four insightful introductions; Edward Albee on Beckett's dramatic works; J.M Coetzee on the poems, short fiction and criticisms and introductions by Colm Tóibín and Salman Rushdie on the novels. Typographical errors that remained uncorrected in the various prior Grove editions of Beckett's work have been corrected in consultation with Beckett scholars C.J. Ackerley and S E. Gontarski.  Each volume will be available individually or in a special edition box set.

Waiting For Godot is not only the most well known work of Samuel Beckett's but it is also one of the most important plays of the last fifty years and a cornerstone of twentieth-century drama. Now in this exquisite centenary edition of Waiting for Godot the reader can find both the French and English translations side by side. Originally written in the French, Beckett translated the work himself, and in doing so chose to revise and eliminate various passages.  With side-by-side text the reader can experience the mastery of Beckett's language and explore the nuances of his creativity.
